Dizzying routes in the Serranía de Ronda: walkways, gorges and vertigo-filled adventures.
The Caminito del Tajo: the heart of Ronda’s gorge
The Caminito del Tajo is Ronda’s most thrilling attraction, inspired by the famous Caminito del Rey but adapted to the iconic gorge that divides the city. This trail, also known as the Camino de los Molinos, winds along the base of the Tajo at more than 100 meters deep, offering a unique perspective of the Puente Nuevo and the Guadalevín River. Stretching around 4 kilometers, the route begins near the Arab Bridge and leads you to the foot of the iconic 18th-century structure, surrounded by limestone cliffs and endemic vegetation.
The first phase is already open and free to access, ideal for a 1–2 hour walk with breathtaking views. The second phase, currently under development, will include a hanging platform running along the entire gorge, with wooden and steel walkways suspended above the void, similar to the longest pedestrian bridge in Spain now being built at the Caminito del Rey. This expansion, promoted by the Provincial Council of Málaga, is expected to open in 2026, attracting even more visitors with its mix of history and adrenaline.
Other vertigo-inducing routes near Ronda
El Saltillo in the Axarquía: an epic hanging bridge

Just one hour from Ronda, in the Axarquía region, El Saltillo is another route reminiscent of the Caminito del Rey. Located between Canillas de Aceituno and Sedella, this path is part of the Gran Senda de Málaga and crosses the Almanchares River gorge via one of the three largest hanging bridges in Spain—70 meters long and suspended 50 meters high. The trail, between 5 and 7 km depending on the variant, follows an irrigation channel with crystal-clear water and offers panoramic views of the Sierra de Tejeda and La Maroma, Málaga’s highest peak.
You can choose circular routes of medium difficulty (2–4 hours) or shorter linear routes suitable for families, always accompanied by the sound of running water and the mountain breeze. It’s perfect to combine with a getaway from Ronda, bringing together untouched nature with the thrill of crossing a swaying bridge.
The Caminito del Rey: the benchmark just 45 minutes from Ronda

Not far away, in Álora and Ardales, the Caminito del Rey remains the king of vertigo-inducing routes, with its walkways perched 100 meters above the Guadalhorce River in the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes. Reopened in 2015 after decades of abandonment, it has welcomed 2.9 million visitors and is now expanding with a 110-meter hanging bridge—the longest in Spain—built using helicopters to protect the environment. The 7.7 km route (around 3 hours) is of medium difficulty, featuring wooden walkways and tunnels carved into the rock, and requires booking through the official website.
From Ronda, it’s an ideal half-day excursion, connecting the vertigo of the Tajo with this UNESCO-listed landmark.
Tips for enjoying these routes safely
These dizzying routes require preparation: wear non-slip footwear, bring water and snacks, as the terrain is uneven with elevation changes. Book tickets for the Caminito del Rey (around €20) and check the weather, as wind can intensify the sensation of height. For El Saltillo and the Caminito del Tajo, there is no fee, but local guides in Ronda offer guided tours for €15–25. If you prefer less adrenaline, choose family-friendly variants or visit at sunset for epic photos.
